Pat Gillis-Coppola joined the S&T Art and Design department as a freelancer in 2001. Several years later she finds herself Design Director, enjoying the learning curve that astronomy has given her. She bought her first telescope within her first year at S&T, and every clear Halloween the neighborhood kids can be seen lined up to take a closer look at the Moon.

Pat shared the Benjamin Franklin Award with author Sue French for designing Celestial Sampler. Before coming to S&T she worked in the publications field designing and illustrating for magazines, newspapers, books, and some R&D. She received her BA degree at Massachusetts College of Art in Communications Design and continued her education at Northern Essex in Communication Design.

“I love creating a look to a page, something that invites the reader in,” she says.

Her other interests lie in the crafts. She produces canvas rugs and designs wedding invitations. Pat also teaches art to children and enjoys knitting, painting, and traveling for her inspiration.
