Monica Young
Science and writing have always gone hand in hand for Monica. After “lightening” her Physics & Astronomy course load at the University of Pittsburgh with a second major in Journalism, she went on to write a Ph.D. thesis on quasars – the supermassive black holes lurking in distant galaxies. She conducted research at Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, graduated from Boston University, and took a postdoc at The Pennsylvania State University. But at the end of the day, she found she missed writing. This, despite the fact that she was writing everywhere she could – Penn State’s media relations, the Association for Women in Science magazine, Science in My Fiction and her own blog, Stars and Spice: The Moving Universe. So when the opportunity at Sky & Telescope arose, Monica was delighted to join the team.
As S&T's Web Editor, Monica creates and manages website content, and she's overseeing efforts to update and reorganize the website. Look for her editing efforts and feature articles in future magazine issues too. When not reading about the latest research or thinking about website design, Monica can be found blowing raspberries or playing tickle-monster with her son, Liam.
