Perhaps it shows how I'm a fan of Star Trek and not a geek about it (Sorry, Bob), but I couldn't figure out why the Boston ABC affiliate was showing episodes of the original Star Trek at 7 p.m. on Saturday nights for the past few weeks. That is, until I finally watched one over the weekend after returning from going out to dinner.

It's not just Star Trek, it's "Star Trek Remastered." All of the exterior space shots had been redone! In Saturday's episode of "The Doomsday Machine," the planet-eating Carrot Monster (as our family called it) had an upgrade. Check out the teaser on YouTube. (Gotta love Hollywood Movie Announcer Guy making it ever more exciting.)

I clearly missed the announcement(s) back in September when CBS Paramount Domestic Television confirmed that they would remaster all 79 episodes in honor of the show's 40th anniversary. Hey, that's right, I was on vacation!

While some episodes won't really benefit from the beautification process, I'm looking forward to seeing "Balance of Terror" and "The Corbomite Maneuver." Does Balok still relish is tranya?
