SBIG announces an accessory that adds self-guiding to its popular ST-8300 CCD camera. The new OAG-8300 Wide Field Off-Axis Guider ($1,495) uses a 7-element relay lens system that places the guide camera to the side of the main imaging camera and filter wheel while adding only ¾ inch (19 mm) of back focus to the entire imaging package. The unit attaches in front of the filter wheel and also acts as a 0.7× focal reducer that effectively doubles the guide camera’s field of view. The guide-camera attachment can also be rotated in 90° increments. Designed specifically to work with SBIG’s new ST-i Planet Cam and Autoguider, you’ll need to verify its compatibility with other guiding cameras. Special limited introductory price: $995.
