2007 IOTA Annual Meeting
July 20, 2007 @ 12:00 am - July 21, 2007 @ 12:00 am
The 2007 meeting of the International Occultation Timing Association will occur on Friday and Saturday July 20 and 21 in Pasco, Washington USA at Columbia Basin College (CBC). Prior to the meeting on the morning of July 20 an expedition will be conducted to observe the occultation of a 12th magnitude star by the outer-belt asteroid (153) Hilda. This event will result in a 1.3 magnitude drop with an expected duration of up to 32 seconds. One of the highlights of the 2007 IOTA conference agenda is the tour of LIGO (Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory) in nearby Richland, WA. At the forefront of modern technology, LIGO is dedicated to the detection of cosmic gravitational waves and the harnessing of these waves for scientific research.
The conference is scheduled to be located in building W room 132. Weather permitting, observation sessions will be conducted from Moore Observatory at the western edge of campus near the baseball fields. A block of rooms have been reserved for IOTA at the nearby Red Lion Hotel east of campus.
