Upcoming Astronomy Events

As a service to our community, Sky & Telescope lists astronomy-related events, including star parties, observatory public nights, astronomy talks, and more. Star parties offer dark skies and astronomical fellowship and often cater to families and feature special activities for kids. Public nights give the general public a chance to view the sky through large telescopes, and public talks are a great place to learn the fundamentals of the science and the craft.
You’ll also see online events offered here.
And if you’d like free copies of Sky & Telescope‘s Let’s Go Stargazing flyer or door prizes for your next star party, you can fill out this form.

Iowa Star Party

August 25, 2022 - August 29, 2022

The 2022 Iowa Star Party will be held August 25th to August 29th at Whiterock Conservancy in Coon Rapids, IA, hosted by Ames Area Amateur Astronomers and co-sponsored by the Des Moines Astronomical Society. Join us for a weekend of dark skies, stargazing and conversation.

Whiterock Conservancy is blessed with some of the darkest skies in Iowa because of its location away from city lights. It is a great place for amateur astronomers in the Midwest to set up their telescopes and enjoy the night skies. It is also a fun place for recreation. Daytime activities available include canoeing, hiking, and birdwatching. Registration for the Iowa Star Party is available now. Learn more at https://www.iowastarparty.com/.
