Due to various people being away from the office over the past couple of weeks, we're a bit late in letting you know about a new radio program about science, hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson, director of New York's Hayden Planetarium. He's joined by co-host comedian Lynne Koplitz.

Star Talk only airs in Los Angeles, but you can listen to it live this Sunday by visiting the website for KLSX at 3 p.m. Eastern time (12 noon Pacific time). Click through to get to the "live" button at the top of the screen. With another winter storm due to strike on Sunday, I'll try to tune in — unless the sales at Best Buy lure me out into the icy mix.

This is the second such show. The first was broadcast on December 2nd, but there doesn't seem to be a way of getting it as a podcast or streaming-audio file.

The show will last an hour and you can ask your science questions Larry-King style by calling 888-520-9710. This week's show will be about space tourism with guests Bill Nye the Science Guy and producer Bob Weiss (cofounder of the X-Prize).

Speaking of podcasts, Andrew Fraknoi sent an announcement about 10 podcasts about astronomy featuring leading researchers made available by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. The Silicon Valley Astronomy Lectures are nontechnical talks about topics ranging from asteroid impacts to dark energy.
