Stargazing Videos: Tips & Techniques

Some tips and techniques are better explained in person (or in today’s digital age via a video) than in print. Here Sky & Telescope editors share their favorite stargazing tips from learning how to use a star charts to using a telescope itself.

Star maps can be surprisingly tricky. If you have never used one before it’s rather hard to orient yourself toward the sky as opposed to the road maps we’re so used to reading. One video by S&T senior editor Alan MacRobert will explain how to use star charts and star wheels in his own inimitable style.

A second rather daunting task is buying your first telescope. So another video by S&T editor Tony Flanders reviews three $100 telescopes. These topics also lend themselves better to show-and-tell than to the written page.
