NUMBER OF MEMBERS
We are one of the largest Ukrainian astronomy clubs located in Kiev, Ukraine. 50 or so registered (informally) members plus many casual observers. We are not limited to Kiev only, our members live throughout Ukraine. We meet every Thursday in University of Taras Shevchenko observatory. Talks, new equipment reviews and infrequent presentations are our main activities. We have some pretty sophisticated observers with lots of experience in observing deepsky objects, asteroids, comets, variable stars, and occultations. Club members develop and build new astrostuff, like homemade telescopes, telescope mounts’ mechanics and electronics, goto systems, autoguiding interfaces, and even a CCD camera (under development).
We have a place outside Kiev where we meet relatively regularly to do some observing, deepsky or planetary astrophotography under dark skies. From time to time our club members organize astrophotography contests supported with nice prizes. We keep in touch with amateur astronomers from other countries (Russia, USA) and want to extend our contacts.
Our internet forum http://www.astroclub.kiev.ua/forum/index.php?language=english welcomes everyone. If you have any questions regarding astronomy, Ukraine or anything else – please feel free to ask. English is perfectly acceptable though not frequently used.
