Vectis Astronomical Society
35 Forest Road
Isle of Wight
NUMBER OF MEMBERS
The society was founded in 1976 to promote island-wide interest in astronomy.
It has a membership of about 100 people of all ages with interests in the various facets of amateur astronomy; from observation and recognition of the constellations, stars and planets to specialized activities like astrophotography, variable star observing, nova hunting comets, lunar, planetary and solar observation and photography.
We also hold an extensive library of astronomical books which members may borrow free of charge.
We meet every Thursday at 19.30 for members and 20.00 for visitors.
Our monthly meetings are held at 7.30pm on the fourth Friday of each month except December. We have talks given by members and invited guest lecturers, covering a wide range of subjects from the elementary to specialized professional astronomical activities. Visitors are very welcome to these regular functions.
