Rainwater Observatory is both an educational and research facility. It is located just off the Natchez Trace Parkway in central Mississippi. We sponsor the Mid-South Star Gaze each April.
Educationally, over 200 programs are presented both on and off site per year for a variety of groups. Several workshops for teachers and a college credit "Astronomy for Teachers" summer course are presented each year. Telescopes include 20 and 32" Dobsonians, 3 12-14" Schmidt Cassegrains, 3 6" refractors.
Research is performed with the .65m Sangre Ritchey-Cassegrain. The observartory is affiliated with the Los Cumbres Global Telescope Network, a worldwide consortium of moderate sized telescopes. The Sangre telescope is equiped with CCD camera, spectrocsope, video, and visual ports.
Visiting observers are welcome to submit observing proposals
