DescriptionThe elusive green flash. Last week I saw the green flash by the first time. The day after I had a first picture.. the next 3 days I manage to repeat and improve the pictures, even making a time lapse video of the green flash. Seems it not so elusive after all, here in Tenerife and this picture was taken on Christmast day. http://www.flickr.com/photos/40046536@N03/6570609393/in/photostream

DescriptionThis is a color photo of a Gigantic Jet that appeared over a very electrically active storm near the center of the island of Puerto Rico.I used a photo taken just 8 seconds before the jet appeared and then another just 8 seconds after in this animated version to show how the sky looked before and after this event. The red plume above the blue plume is caused by the electrically charged molecules interacting with nitrogen in the upper atmosphere.

EquipmentNikon D700, ISO 800,14-24mm Lens
DescriptionI setup my Nikon D700 DSLR with a F2.8 14-24mm on the tripod. Set the ISO to 800 and the focal length to 15mm and took a few test shots. 15-second exposures gave me a reasonably saturated star without too much sky glow. In summary, if I had kept the shutter open for 25 minutes with a Full Moon at ISO 800, there would be nothing but a white frame to look at. By using 100 fifteen-second exposures and statistically stacking them, I was able to achieve the familiar star trail image familiar to all. Let me not forget the "1" Perseid fireball...
