Equipment

Takahashi Epsilon 180ED astrograph with an SBIG STL-11000M CCD camera equipped with an Astrodon Hydrogen-alpha filter on an Astro-Physics 900 GTO German equatorial mount.

Description

This is a 4-frame mosaic of the Orion area, including the famous Horse Head Nebula (B 33), the Orion Nebula M 42), as well as the Flame Nebula (NGC 2024). A special narrow band Hydrogen-alpha filter was used to create this panoramic view. This image really needs to be displayed at a larger image scale to really show off the fascinating structure. I have included a direct link to the image on my website thank you darrell crofford http://www.galaxies.com/darrellccd.aspx?photoid=81

Equipment

Stellarvue SV115 refractor at f/5.6 on a Takahashi EM200 Temma-2 German equatorial mount. SBIG ST2000XM CCD camera with Astrodon 6nm hydrogen-alpha filter and RGB filters

Description

NGC 281 is a busy workshop of star formation. Prominent features include a small open cluster of stars, diffuse emission nebula, and dark lanes of obscuring gas and dust. The dust lanes visible below center are likely homes of star formation. Particularly striking are the dark Bok globules visible against the bright nebula. The NGC 281 system, dubbed the Pacman nebula for its overall shape, lies about 10,000 light years distant.
