Description

With sheet lightning all around me, I knew I had to capture this scene quickly as time was running out. Looking south, this photo depicts the Sagittarius region of the milky way. I got a few long exposures in before the approaching storm got too close.

Description

Look at the north from Arkaroola, a unique dark site in South Australia, www.arkaroola.com.au shows low over horizon of the beautiful range of Flinders Mountains the constalations of Lyra and the Northern Corona (Corona Borealis). The latter one was thought by Aborigines as a bumerang.

Description

The center of our Milky Way galaxy is just above the Sagittarius teapot asterism. This image was taken at the Bryce Canyon Astronomy Festival star party on Thursday night. The Astonomical League was having its annual convention; it was hosted by the Salt Lake Astronomical Society. Conditions were ideal: almost 8000 ft of altitude, clear weather, one of the darkest locations in the continuental U.S., and over 50 telescopes available for public viewing.
