This was taken on a Air Raratonga chartered flight from Raratonga,Cook Is. to fly above the clouds to see the solar eclipse on the morning of 7/11/10. The picture was taken at 25,000 feet. The horizon is truly amazing.

Description

This nebula is part of a complex area that houses gas emission, absorption, and dark nebulae. In the picture you can see the most famous (the elephant's trunk), a large dark column within the areas of hydrogen IC 1396.

GANYMEDE'S SHADOW WAS BEGINNING IT'S TREK ACROSS THE FACE OF JUPITER, BUT BEFORE THE MOON COULD BLEND IN WITH JUPITER'S CLOUDS, I SNAPPED THIS PICTURE.

No this is not the Moon, it is the cresent Venus as the ISS made a transit accross Venus from the driveway of a friend of mine. Frank Garner and I have been waiting a long time for this opportunity. Please note, this is a daytime pass at 4:38 P.M. local time. The sun is still 33 degrees high and 30 degrees from Venus. Venus was shining at a magnitude of -4.2 and the brightness of the ISS was -1.2,

Description

Orion Nebula The Orion Nebula (also known as Messier 42, M42, or NGC 1976) is a diffuse nebula situated south[b] of Orion's Belt. It is one of the brightest nebulae, and is visible to the naked eye in the night sky. M42 is located at a distance of 1,344 ± 20 light years[2][5] and is the closest region of massive star formation to Earth. The M42 nebula is estimated to be 24 light years across. Older texts frequently referred to the Orion Nebula as the Great Nebula in Orion or the Great Orion Nebula.

Description

The moon and Jupiter came within 6 degrees of each other on the Autumnal Equinox. This image, overlooking the Missouri River just west of St. Louis, consists of a 90 minute exposure to create the trails combined with static images of each body taken immediately prior.
