PhotographerDaniel BorcardLocationSt-Roch-de-l'Achigan, Québec, CanadaDateMay 20 + 23, 2012EquipmentCelestron 9.25 working at F/6.3 , SBIG ST2000XM camera, IDAS LPS2 filter, Custom Scientific LRGB filters. 29 x 10 minutes luminance at 1x1 bin, 12:6:12 x 10 min RGB at 2x2 bin.DescriptionFor long I was afraid of Messier 64 with its strong "eye" and its misty arms. In my light-polluted skies (red zone) I am fighting against heavy light pollution. 4h50 luminance under steady skies (20 May) and 5 h RGB (23 May) allowed me to get interesting detail down to the core of the "Black Eye" galaxy. I also worked on the misty arms to reveal their spiral shape, which is often half lost in the processing. The colors of this galaxy are rather subtle and demanded a very light hand to be revealed without exaggeration. |

PhotographerMark DahmkeLocationLincoln, NebraskaDate6/7/2012 11:15pmEquipmentCelestron Onyx refractor and Nikon D200 on tripod.DescriptionA few months ago I used Google Earth to determine the bearing from my house to the State Capitol Bldg (122 deg). Then I checked moon rise azimuths for the next few months and added those +/-1 degree azimuth to my Outlook calendar. This image was only processed to remove noise and sharpen it a bit... no HDR or stacking. |
