PhotographerJett AguilarLocationQuezon City, PhilippinesDateJune 6, 2012 at 1:39 UTEquipmentSolarmax 90/BF15 on a Megrez 90 refractor, DMK31AUO3 cameraDescriptionWe were very lucky to observe and image the rare and historic 2012 Transit of Venus in Quezon City, the Philippines. It was raining the previous evening and the sky was almost completely overcast until the time of the transit when the clouds thinned a bit allowing us to view 1st and 2nd contacts at my location. I took both white light and H-alpha images intermittently thru the clouds but unfortunately it rained again during the 3rd and 4th contacts and I had to abandon my imaging attempts. Nevertheless,I was still very happy that I got to observe and image the two Venus Transits of this century! |

This hydrogen alpha image shows Venus at past maximum transit with a hedge prominence at the Northeastern limb and sunspots with filaments below the transiting planet. |

My family and friends scrambled to get a peak and we also somehow managed to quickly exchange the eyepiece for the camera (with T-adapter) fast enough to grab a few photos. |

PhotographerKalvin ClauerLocation1 hr east of Edmonton AlbertaDate5:15 MSTEquipmentPentax K5 with older 210mm Zoom lens at 1.5X conversion factor. Unfiltered except or the cloud cover.DescriptionI got this shot of Venus passing in front of the sun, a lucky shot on a very cloudy afternoon. The shot was taken through my grandpa's old Pentax 210mm lens which performs at 1.5 X on my new Pentax K5. Interestingly it was taken with no filter other than just the right amount of clouds. I believe I'm one of very few Edmontonians to see this event. Many sunspots are also visible. |
