Nikon D300, 2X extender, and Nikkor 200mm lens. ISO 200, F-stop: f/45, shutter speed: 1/160. RAW image capture. I used a camera tripod.

Description

The planet Venus is visible crossing the sun as coastal clouds add drama to the composition. Sun spots are also visible.

homemade 6" newtonian telescope with Olympus T-100 camera

Description

dark venus disk transiting over sun- as seen through cloud cover. cloud cover used as filters for telescope as sun was dimmed by clouds. photo was captured when cover opened momentorily to show sun through veil of thin clouds. Telescope aparture was masked with around 10% open slit to control brightness of sun. this is a colour image but appears black & white due to dark venus & white sun behind grey clouds.

Description

Venus Transit as seen from Evansville, Indiana. The Evansville Astronomical Society had telescopes setup on the bank of the Ohio River near the Evansville Museum to show the Transit to the public. Several hundred people took advantage of the opportunity. I had one scope set up for visula observing, and one for photography.
