Equipment

Description

Despite cirrus clouds and haze, we were able to take some pictures of the eclipsed Moon and realize this composite showing the dimension of the Earth's shadow cone. It was easier with a hoop, But the Moon was too high and my girlfriend is too small. We were really really lucky: less than an hour after the end, it started raining for good! :o)

Description

The Moon's altitude in this shot is 9° 45'. The sky had been overcast since moonrise about an hour earlier. I had just about given up when I noticed a sucker hole drifting in from the west, and decided to wait it out. The opening lasted about 10 minutes. Another brief opening rolled through an hour later during the partial phase. Just goes to show.

Location

The boardwalk at the Jersey Shore

Date

3/3/07, 6:30PM

Equipment

Tripod mounted Pentax istD DSLR, 18-125mm Sigma lens at 125mm. 2 second exposures.

Description

I chose the boardwalk to insure that I had a flat horizon; but a distant cloud bank did not permit seeing the Moon until it was about 5º above the ocean. After about a 30 minute window a low level cloud layer quickly developed covering the sky. This happened just after the Moon began exiting the umbra.
