Baader film solar filter in front of objective.DescriptionI went out to photograph the large sunspot reported on the sun's face today, using white light. After I was done, I wondered how big the sunspot was - was it as large as the Earth? So I went back in my files and found an image I made of the 2004 Transit of Venus. I scaled both images for the same diameter of the Sun's disk, and put them side by side. |

An interesting sidebar is that, when making this my desktop's background, the image gets stretched, reducing the altitude of the rock but producing an artist's rendition of a sunset on Titan. |

PhotographerJeff.daiLocationYunnan ChinaDate2012-4-15EquipmentPentax K-5 SMC PENTAX DA 10-17mm/F3.5-4.5 FishEye O-GPS1DescriptionPeople always leave after the sunset. but for me, a stargazer, the true arena was just begin.I stood on the edge of the cliff, facing the wild wind and Gazing at the starry sky. Luckily the light pollution didn't influence the sky alot. The Winter Milky Way crossed over the mountains, Venus and the sisters immersed in Zodiacal light. This is the beauty of night that you won't see if you don't hold on after sunset, and that is what we need to protect. Please treat them as your friends. Thank you. |
