I used a 60mm refractor at 53x to project an image of the Sun and Venus onto a piece of 9"x16" drawing paper. Then I used my DSLR to take a picture. It was edited in Photoshop for color and contrast. |

Processed using Registax 6 and Paint Shop Pro 9.DescriptionWe ended up driving 2.5 hrs. north from our home in Elmhurst, PA to Fulton, NY to find sunny conditions to shoot the Venus Transit. We got setup with only 20 minutes to the start of the transit. We took several videos for image processing. This image shows Venus just after second contact, with the chromospheric spicule ring just beyond by about 67 million miles! |

PhotographerLeahLocationBatavia, OhioDate05/06/12 6:35 PMEquipmentOrion 10x50 Scenix Binoculars with Black PolymerDescriptionA few hours before the transit started, our sky was forecasted to be clear; but 30 minutes before first contact, it was completely overcast, so we drove around looking for a hole in the clouds. About 25 minutes after second contact, we finally found a tiny patch of sunlight and we each got a glimpse through our filtered binoculars. We ended up only getting three glimpses of the transit before the Sun set, and during those glimpses I didn't get to take a picture of it with our camera - but I did make this drawing of it. |
