The full lunar eclipse of 10 December 2011 occurred during early-morning moonset over Las Vegas, NV. A deserted dirt road at the far eastern edge of town afforded this view of the event. Local news had predicted we would see a blood-red disc setting behind Mt. Charleston (mid-image), but actually the moon disappeared like Carroll's Cheshire Cat! Here, the eclipsed moon is still visible in the photo's upper-right corner.
