Description

After a session of Jupiter i deciced to image Uranus and Neptune. Neptune is approaching Opposition on the 15th and soon in september Uranus. A recent image of Jupiter was used to compare size comparising using the same setup and equipment on all three planets.

Description

Seeing the Total Solar Eclipse from near Yuwi, China was touch and go, with a cloud covering the Sun just minutes before totality. The clouds cleared away to reveal a glorious spectacle. A composite of 13 images from 1/2000 second to 2 seconds.

Description

I took this at the centerline of the eclipse track in the desert north of Dazhuang, China which is northeast of Jiayuguan. The air was incredibly transparent and the eclipse was vivid. We showed many local Chinese the eclipse through our telescopes which was just as fun as the eclipse itself!

Description

It was a marvelous eclipse that we saw, visible so unexpectedly! For days the weather was unstable, but just before the eclipse the sky became so clear as if we were not in Siberia! The corona was beautiful, many prominences and large parts of the chromosphere were visible as well as many Baily's Beads.

Description

Some of the lensed galaxies behind Abell 2218 are identified. Note Arc A, 362 and 468 are images of the same galaxy at 10.7 billion light years. The big blue galaxy is UGCA 413 and is only about 320 million light years away. Abell 2218 is 2.07 billion light years away light travel time. Scale 0.25" per pixel.

Jupiter and its storms trailing behind the Great Red Spot. Jupiter at its lowest angle for this year for northern latitude making it a difficult subject to image.
