Hobby Q&A

One of my favorite columns in Sky & Telescope is Hobby Q&A. That's because this column benefits from the curiosity and erudition of our readers, who often ask us some extraordinarily interesting and perceptive questions.

Number of stars visible at different seasons
I particularly liked the Hobby Q&A from December 2008 issue. The questions were:

  • How far away can we detect exoplanets?
  • How many stars are visible to the unaided eye, and how does this vary by season?
  • How can the (forthcoming) Gaia satellite measure star positions far more accurately than the resolution of its mirrors?

    Comet binoculars

Posted by Nena December 2, 2011 At 08:57 AM PST
Can anyone help me? I inherited a pair of Comet binoculars from my great grandfather and I cannot find a manufacturer. I was hoping someone would know who the manufacturer was and if they still exist? I've tried on internet searches but I'm not very good at it. If anyone can, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks
