Diffraction Limited has released its next level of integrated astrophotography tools with MaxIm DL 5 (starting at $199). The latest upgrade of this popular program adds a host of new features, including a built-in planetarium program. There’s also observatory automation with auto-focus routines, filter-wheel support, dome rotation, telescope control, and simultaneous multi-camera operation. MaxIm DL 5 allows you to automatically calibrate and combine large groups of images recorded through various filters without having to subdivide them into categories, and it can automatically reject defective exposures based on any criteria you choose. Instantly overlay your images on its mini-planetarium to help identify obscure objects. MaxIm DL 5 is fully compatible with Windows XP and Vista. Because it can function independently from your computer’s RAM, massive groups of files can be easily opened and combined.
