At Sky & Telescope, we highly value our relationships with readers, scientists, equipment vendors, and other members of the global astronomical community. The key to maintaining these relationships is good communication. Here are some guidelines for keeping the lines of communication open. Please remember, whenever you contact us, to give us your mailing address, phone and fax numbers, and e-mail address so that we can get back to you if we have any questions or need any additional information.
Our Letters department provides a forum for comments on published articles, for certain announcements, and for statements not appropriate elsewhere in the magazine. Please limit your comments to 300 words. Letters selected for publication may be edited for clarity and brevity; edited letters are sent to authors for approval. Due to the large volume of mail we receive, not all letters can receive personal responses. Write to Letters to the Editor at the address below, or send your comments by e-mail to letters@SkyandTelescope.com. When sending e-mail to SkyandTelescope.com, please put something in the "Subject:" field, as messages with blank headers are usually rejected as spam.
News Notes invites suggestions from astronomers concerning discoveries that should be highlighted in Sky & Telescope and/or on SkyandTelescope.com. We encourage researchers to send preprints of forthcoming journal articles, including illustrations. Send them to News Notes at the address below, or by e-mail to newsnotes@SkyandTelescope.com.
Books for Review
Authors and publishers wishing to see their books reviewed in Sky & Telescope should send two sample copies or proofs to Books & Beyond at the address below. We don't have room to review every new astronomy title, but we try to review, or at least announce, as many as we can.
Products for Review
S&T Test Report provides comprehensive reviews of telescopes, accessories, other equipment, and software of interest to the astronomical community. New Product Showcase is a reader service announcing innovative items designed for amateur astronomers. The descriptions we publish in New Product Showcase are based largely on information supplied by the manufacturers or distributors.
Product and software announcements for New Product Showcase should be send to assistant editor Sean Walker at the address below, or by e-mail to nps@SkyandTelescope.com. Please include detailed product and contact information, a color photograph (or, in the case of software, a screen grab in BMP, TIFF, or GIF format) suitable for publication, and a Web-site address if available. We do not always need a sample of the actual product or software application if all we're doing is announcing it; if we do, we'll let you know. Due to the huge number of announcements we receive, not all can find their way into the magazine.
Please note that the editors of Sky & Telescope do not advise callers or correspondents on product purchases. We recommend that you read our product announcements and reviews, contact the vendors for additional information, and draw your own conclusions.
Sky & Telescope's editors are eager to receive observing reports, images, and drawings of celestial objects and events from amateur and professional astronomers worldwide. Send them to Observer's Log at the address below, or by e-mail to observers@SkyandTelescope.com.
