Total exposure about 100 minutes from Los Angeles city using homemade 8 inch f/4 reflector. Camera was SBIG ST-8300C, 16 bit range helps with my gray skies. CGEM mount auto-guided with webcam. More details at: http://www.flickr.com/photos/edhiker/6101317579
Description
Closest, brightest supernova in 40 years - can be seen with binoculars (good ones). Visually, I could see the supernova, but not M101.
