Description
The Western Veil or Witch's Broom nebula is located in Cygnus and is part of the Cygnus Loop, a supernova remnant thought to be 5000 to 8000 years old. It lies at a distance of approximately 1500 light years from us and is composed of heated and ionized gas and dust. The bright star that appears in the middle of the nebula is 52 Cygni, which is actually a foreground star. The image is composed of 20 minute subs through Ha, Oiii, and Sii narrowband filters which were then combined using the CFHT colour palette. Total exposure time is 10.3 hours
