Description:
The solar storms in the latter portion of January 2012 were precipitated by Sunspots 1401 and 1402. As they marched across the face of the sun they crackled with boundless energy, throwing more than a few Flares and CME's our way. One X Class Flare brought Aurora that was seen as far south as Tucson, Arizona. In this image, the sunspots are just rounding the north eastern solar limb and becoming visible to us. Add in the filament below the spots and the result is a face, peering at us in total silence, smiling as if a harbinger of things to come...
