In was cloudy in Wilmette, Illinois, when the partial part of the Supermoon Total Lunar Eclipse began at 8:07 PM CDT on Sept. 27, 2015. Luckily gaps in the clouds opened up just before totality began and when this mid-eclipse photo was taken with a 3.2 second exposure.

I started out in Astronomy in 1957 after a substitute high school physics teacher brought a small telescope mirror to class and mentioned that one could get a kit from Edmunds to make their own telescope mirror. That year I ground, polished, and silvered a 4.25 in diameter telescope, followed by an 8 inch telescope in 1958.
