Comet ISON Photo Contest:
Rules and Regulations
Open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia (“U.S.”) and Canada (excluding the Province of Quebec) who have reached the age of majority in the participant’s jurisdiction of residence at time of entry. We encourage those under the age of majority to submit images through their parent or guardian. Employees of Sky & Telescope Media, LLC and Celestron are not eligible to enter. Images acquired from professional observatories or spacecraft are inadmissible.
How to enter
Contestants can submit up to five images via a form available at SkyandTelescope.com/photocontest. Sorry, but we can't accept entries by mail.
Entries must be submitted with a resolution of at least 640x480 pixels in size, but no larger than 1600x1200 pixels. Files should be smaller than 150 kb, in JPG or GIF format, and the filenames should not contain symbol characters (*, &, :, /, \. etc.). The online form will automatically reject entries not meeting these criteria. The submission form also requires the entrant's name, address, phone number, and e-mail address, so that we can get in touch with you should you become a finalist. Entries will be accepted until midnight (EST) on December 31, 2013.
Entrants should be prepared to e-mail high-resolution images for print publication, should they be chosen as winners.
The April 2014 issue of Sky & Telescope magazine and an accompanying website article will announce the winners of the photo contest.
Judging & Notification
Entries will be judged in two rounds. In the first round, Sky & Telescope editors will select about a dozen finalists. In the second round, visitors to our website will select their picks for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd prizes. The editors will tally the votes, and the announcement, which will be announced in the April 2014 issue and on the website, will be final.
The names of the photographers will accompany the photos during the judging process.
The dozen or so finalists will be listed online by January 8, 2014. Online voting will take place from January 8th through January 22th.
