It was tricks and treats for several hundred attendees at the Advanced Imaging Conference held in San Jose, California, on Halloween weekend last October. Numerous tricks of the astrophotography trade were revealed by presenters at a day-long series of workshops covering topics ranging from data acquisition and calibration through final tweaking of processed images. Treats too were numerous and included a day of lectures by distinguished speakers, as well as a chance for conference attendees to make and renew acquaintances and talk shop.
Another highlight was a ballroom-size vendor area where people could see (and purchase) the latest astrophotography gear. During the conference, Sky & Telescope’s senior editor Dennis di Cicco conducted video interviews with equipment manufacturers and software developers at the cutting edge of today’s astrophotography hobby.

The AIC 2009 interviews by senior S&T editor Dennis DiCicco are VERY INFORMATIVE and INSIGHTFUL and entertaining-! Highly recommended-!
Dennis DiCicco did an admirable job of interviewing each of the equipment representatives. I was particularly appreciative of the fact that "reps" were actually the "principals" of the respective companies being represented and that Dennis asked questions that I, as a prospective buyer and user, would like to ask.
Perhaps S&T will sponsor MORE of these at forthcoming astronomical meetings? Perhaps NEAF? PATS? One can hope!
In the future, the techncial quality of the audio could be substantially improved with upgraded microphones.

Great addition to the magazine coverage. It was really nice to see and hear the folks that we have only read about until now.

Dennis di Cicco is the man. I mean he has been with S&T since 1974 and looks to be in his 40's. Whats your secret?
Keep on keeping on!
