Different Dob?: Parks Astrolight AZ6 and AZ8 Reflectors

Parks Optical
When is an altazimuth-mounted Newtonian telescope not a Dobsonian? When it’s a new Parks Astrolight AZ reflector. These 6- and 8-inch Newtonians ($799 and $999, respectively) feature all the Parks components — full-thickness Pyrex mirrors, fiberglass tubes, and aluminum mirror cells — that have earned the company a well-deserved reputation for quality for more than 50 years. Coupled with a newly designed, pier-supported altazimuth mount, these telescopes offer the operational simplicity and convenience of a Dobsonian, but with an eyepiece height that is comfortable for a standing adult. The complete 6-inch scope weighs 37 pounds (16.8 kilograms), while the 8-inch is 49 pounds.
