Last Chance to Vote: Comet ISON Photo Contest

We've selected the finalists, now it's your turn! Tell us which ISON photos you think ought to take 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place.

Comet ISON has come and gone, but while it was approaching in the pre-dawn skies of autumn, photographers captured some spectacular shots. We received dozens of submissions to our Comet ISON Photo Contest, ranging from close-ups of the nucleus and coma with incredible detail in the tail, to wide-field shots above trees, lakes, and bridges.

S&T editorial and art staff have selected a dozen finalists for our Comet ISON photo contest. Now it's your turn! Click here to vote before January 22nd to decide which astrophotographers will take home a hefty prize from Celestron.

You'll be able to make one selection each for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. Make sure to scroll down to view all 12 photos before making your selections.

The first prize is Celestron's 8-inch EdgeHD on the Advanced VX Mount and a Skyris 274M Camera. Second prize is the Cometron 114AZ Telescope, and third prize is a pair of Cometron 12x70 Binoculars.

Hi. I spotted ISON last night, and also this morning. Thismorning, however I got some AMAZING IMAGES. I don’t know who to talk to or share them with. I’ve put them up on my own website, along with a blog post.

I just took a TON of more amazing photos about 15 min. ago when more fragments were passing overhead – mid day!

    Anyway. ISON is not dead.
