    Intriguing. But “OJ 287 (…) has been monitored since the 1890s”? Is this a typo, or with what has it been monitored? I would like to see more explanation!

    “1890s” is correct; it was recorded on early sky-patrol photos (1891) before anyone paid much attention to it. It was originally thought to be a faint variable star. (It ranges from magnitude 13 to 16).
