Arecibo Observatory Faces Uncertain Future
Arecibo Observatory, the world's largest single-dish active radar telescope in the world, may be shut down or even destroyed due to funding concerns.
Alessondra Springmann is a rocket scientist studying asteroids and comets at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. She worked for two years at Arecibo Observatory in the planetary radar group observing asteroids with the 1 megawatt radar system.
