Description:
The California Nebula (NGC1499) is an emission nebula located in the constellation Perseus. It is so named because it appears to resemble the outline of the State of California on long exposure photographs. It is almost 2.5° long on the sky , it is extremely difficult to observe visually. It's located about 1000 light years from earth. I spent three nights capturing the image, there's approximately 5 hours of hydrogen alpha data and 4 hours each of SII and 0III data respectively. Seeing was quite good all three nights. The image was colorized per HST, preliminary processing and calibration was done with Maxim DL and final processing and colorizing was done with Photoshop CS-6. Suggestions for improving the image are appreciated.
