Description:

This is an image of Comet 46P/Wirtanen taken through a very thin layer of clouds. 46P has brightened to about magnitude 10 and in this image is 26.9 million miles from Earth. It is predicted to be about magnitude 3.5 when it makes it's close appraoch to Earth on December 16 when it will be about 7 million miles from Earth. Thus it may be a faint fuzzy object that can be seen with only your eyes from a relatively dark site. It should look nice in small binoculars. Of course, it is a comet, could be brighter or could be fainter than predicted.
