Description:

Comet 96P/Machholz is a Sun grazing comet. On October 27, 2017 it passed only 11 million miles from the Sun and reached magnitude 2. Unfortunately it was not visible from Earth as it passed the Sun, but it was visible in SOHO images. 96P has a 5.29 year orbit. In this image 96P is fainter than magnitude 20 and is 237 million miles from Earth as it moves away from the Sun. The 2x Zoom images attempt to show the comet a little better.
