Description:

On May 25 Comet C/2018 K1 Weiland was discovered by the ATLAS Sky Survey. In these images the comet is 2 degrees east of the star Kaus Borealis which is the star at the top of the Teapot asterism in the rich Milky Way star fields of the constellation Sagittarius. The comet is about magnitude 17.3 and can only be found with all the dim background stars by its movement in front of those stars. The single 90 second image has a bright peppered background because that background is a dense field of dim stars.
