Description:

M27, also NGC6853, is a bright planetary nebula in Velpecula near Cygnus. Commonly called the Dumbbell Nebula, it is located approximately 1,360 light years from Earth and was discovered by Charles Messier in 1764. It is the remnant of a stellar explosion more than 10,000 years ago. The remaining white dwarf is the largest known star of its type.
